A Rhino's Reflection
A Rhino Living Testimony and Reflection
Ms. Kelly Willey is a Financial Advisor with Waddell & Reed
"I recently participated in a "Tip that Cow" Rhino Living teleseminar that had me inspired and in turmoil all at the same time. The basic message was that you are a sum of the people you surround yourself with. After the call I had so many thoughts running around in my head, and was feeling very emotional.I was emotional because I realized that through my compassion for others, I have people in my life that bring me down on some level. Some of the relationships are personal, some professional…some both. But either way, there is a common thread. These people either don’t support, encourage and help me…or, by not being people of action and personal accountability, influence me in some way. And although the best thing for me is to cut ties or limit interaction, I’m not sure I’m ready to do that at this time. I fear that I am not in a place to do that and be able to accept it and move on. So, I will take steps I feel are best for me at the moment.
With that being said, my focus going forward, starting now, is to start to surround myself with the people that will lift me up, inspire me and want me to be the best I can be. Personally, that means those people that I can count on to be there when I need them, as I have and will continue to for them. Those that believe in my best qualities, and will help me correct my faults. Those that I can turn to for help and guidance, without fear of judgment and rejection. And learning that there is nothing wrong with asking for help, and that it doesn’t mean I am any less independent.
Professionally, that means those that will help me do the work that I love. Those clients that want to be successful and value the skill set and passion I possess to help guide them, and are willing to set a well laid plan to fulfill their dreams. Everyone fears change to some extent, but the people that I want to work with will be willing to work through that fear and take control of the action steps needed to achieve their goals. And although that may mean letting go of people that could really benefit from working with me, I must realize that I can’t help someone who isn’t ready for it.
I will seek those that will partner with me and introduce me to others with confidence in my abilities, knowing that I am a person of integrity and compassion. Those whose abilities I have confidence in, and will introduce them to others that could benefit from their service and expertise. I have always been one to own everything myself, and underestimate the impact that others have on me.I give away the credit for my successes, and carry the weight of my failures on my own shoulders. But, I am starting to realize, and believe, that we really are composed of the attitudes we surround ourselves with. I’m learning that I can still have compassion for others, without compromising myself."
